When Trafikverket renovated its 14,000 m² regional office in Luleå, Sweden, the organisation transitioned from traditional cellular offices to a modern open-plan, activity-based workplace designed to support collaboration and flexibility. However, following the refurbishment, employees experienced several indoor environmental challenges that affected comfort and satisfaction.
The most significant issues were excessive ventilation-related noise and temperature inconsistencies throughout the building. With approximately 400 employees using the space, creating a comfortable and productive indoor environment became a priority. Trafikverket also lacked detailed visibility into how the ventilation system and wider building environment were performing, making it difficult to identify the root causes of problems and optimise operations effectively.
