Eurovent Recommendations for Modern AHU Control Systems

Eurovent defines within the whitepaper “Control systems for air handling units” the minimum functional requirements for modern AHU controls, with a clear focus on energy efficiency, operational transparency, interoperability, ease of commissioning, and long-term performance optimisation. The paper highlights the need for intelligent, demand‑driven control strategies, open communication protocols, detailed energy monitoring, and user‑friendly interfaces that support both daily operation and future system optimisation.

ISYteq 4.0 has been developed in line with these principles. By combining smart algorithms, open communication, intuitive operation, and advanced energy optimisation, ISYteq 4.0 delivers enhanced comfort, reduced installation and operating costs, and future‑ready compliance with upcoming regulatory and Ecodesign requirements.

Below, we explore how ISYteq 4.0 Controls puts these Eurovent recommendations into practice — delivering faster installation, smarter operation, and measurable energy savings throughout the AHU lifecycle.

Save Up To 40 Hours On Installation

For hassle-free installation, eQ Master with ISYteq 4.0 is the smart choice. All control components, such as sensors and actuators, are connected to a bus system. The cable to each component leaves the unit casing via the shortest possible route and is then connected to a bus system in the cable trunk on the outside of the unit with a quick connector.

However, external bus cabling with quick connectors, close to each block joint, is a game changer when it comes to installation time for modular AHUs. Depending on how complex the unit is, the installer can save up to 40 hours on electrical installation. The quick connectors are clearly marked, but at most block joints there is only one pair to connect, making installation quick and easy.

eQ Master with ISYteq 4.0 comes pre-configured and tested at the factory, which means that commissioning can be carried out quicker.

Experience The Flexibility to Choose the Most Suitable Design for Each Project

ISYteq 4.0 is delivered with factory fitted sensors, actuators and drive systems. The switch cabinet offers flexible installation to suit various technical room layouts and access requirements. You can choose from the following configurations:

  • Fitted on the inspection side
  • Mounted on hinges at the end wall
  • Supplied loose for mounting on a wall in the technical room.

Integration To BMS – 48-72 Hours Faster (2-3 Days)

Using BACnet reduces the system integrator’s workload by 2–3 full days compared to other communication protocols. This time saving is made possible by the automatic generation of the EDE file directly in the DDC.

The user interface is fully web-based, meaning the experience on the 7” ISYteq Touch 7.1 panel is identical to what you see on a mobile phone, tablet, or PC via a web browser — as long as it’s connected to the DDC. This consistency improves user recognition and leads to more efficient use of resources.

Simple System Insight and Smart, Demand‑Driven Operation

The web interface itself is very intuitive. From the dashboard or the flowchart, it is easy to get an overview of the current operating status. The automatic trend log makes historical data easily accessible. Data is stored all the time; you just must select what you want to see. Perfect for performance review and future fine-tuning.

With energy costs top of mind, operating your system based on actual demand is more important than ever. ISYteq 4.0 makes this easy with its profile-based control.

A profile is a predefined set of setpoints and control types that determine how the system operates under specific conditions.

The active profile is selected automatically via the internal scheduler, a digital input, or integration with a BMS.
ISYteq 4.0 offers seven profiles, including Off, Boost, and Night Purge, giving you the flexibility to balance comfort and energy efficiency.

You can even link AHU startup to profile conditions — for example, the unit will only start during Night Purge if the indoor temperature falls outside a defined range.

The scheduler itself follows the BACnet standard. In fact, ISYteq 4.0 is designed for communication. The DDC is a native BACnet controller (B-BC), with communication via BACnet IP and BACnet MS/TP as well as via Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU included as standard. In other words, ISYteq 4.0 is ready to communicate with most BMS systems on the market today.

Seamless and Secure Remote Access with the ISYteq Cloud

Although it is possible to give the integrated web server a public internet address, this is not recommended. To safely access your ISYteq 4.0 from any location with mobile coverage, we recommend taking out an ISYteq Cloud subscription. The DDC comes with a 4G modem and sleeping SIM card as standard, enabling future connections to the ISYteq Cloud and online support from FläktGroup Service.

The ISYteq Cloud has a built-in streaming function, meaning that you can get full access to the local web interface directly from the ISYteq Cloud portal. There are also other features in the ISYteq Cloud, such as trend log, alarm list and e-mail/SMS function.

Automatic Pressure Balancing for Leakage‑Free Energy Recovery

Automatic Pressure Balancing is one of those FläktGroup technologies. This function allows us to use highly efficient energy recovery systems in combination with no leakage from extract to supply air. By carefully balancing the air pressure in an eQ Master unit with a rotary heat exchanger, ISYteq 4.0 eliminates leakage from extract to supply air and thereby minimizing the risk of airborne particles being recirculated. This not only results in a reduced length air handling unit compared to a counterflow but also has a positive impact on investment and operating costs.

Integrated Control of Airflows, Zones, Fans, and Water Circuits

The ISYteq 4.0 control system is primarily intended for controlling the air handling unit, but it has many other functions. All for your convenience. For instance, it can control the temperature and humidity in up to two zones and three associated fans, as well as primary water circuits for heating and/or cooling water for chilled beams, fan coil units, etc. Different compensation or limitation functions can be applied depending on usage. If the system does not have both circuits, one of the water circuit controllers can be used for domestic hot water.

Smart Enthalpy Control

Another technology provided with ISYteq 4.0 is the enthalpy control function. Conventionally, a sorption wheel in an eQ Master unit can capture external moisture and reduce the latent load on the cooling coil. Thanks to our smart control function, ISYteq 4.0 optimizes the use of the Sorption Wheel with enthalpy control instead of conventional temperature control, resulting in up to 40% less coil power is required, which means reduced running costs and improved indoor comfort with minimal additional investment.

Intelligent Energy Monitoring

ISYteq 4.0 allows you to monitor energy consumption at component level, giving you easy access to all the data you need to reduce running costs, identify areas for future performance related maintenance, set alarms for abnormal events, and much more. ISYteq 4.0 is designed to meet the upcoming Ecodesign requirements for air handling units — with the potential to achieve the highest control bonus. This bonus acts as a correction factor for smart controls, used to multiply the maximum allowed internal specific fan power, rewarding intelligent energy-saving strategies.

eQ Master Is Built For The Future — And Beyond

By aligning closely with Eurovent’s recommendations for modern AHU control systems, eQ Master with ISYteq 4.0 delivers a future‑ready solution that combines intelligent control, simplified installation, seamless integration, and advanced energy optimisation. From faster commissioning and intuitive operation to reduced running costs and improved indoor comfort, ISYteq 4.0 supports the entire AHU lifecycle - today and beyond. Designed to meet upcoming regulatory and Ecodesign requirements, it provides a robust foundation for efficient, transparent, and sustainable air handling in any application. Powered by intelligent algorithms, ISYteq 4.0 represents a major advancement over conventional AHU control systems currently on the market.
