FläktGroup Produces First 2.5MW DX Coolant Distribution Unit
Published
FläktGroup has successfully produced its first 2.5MW DX Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU), marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion into advanced liquid cooling solution for the next generation data centre.
Developed for a customer in the United States and built at FläktGroup’s Arkansas facility, this system solution showcases FläktGroup’s ingenuity and innovation. The refrigerant-based CDU represents a major step forward in FläktGroup’s ability support the growing thermal demands created by the boom in artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing (HPC) and increasingly dense IT environments.
As data centre operators continue to deploy even more powerful GPUs to support AI workloads, traditional cooling methods are beginning to reach their limits. The time for change is now and with the industries transition towards liquid cooling technologies accelerating, the demand for innovative solutions capable of managing higher heat loads is rising.
Supporting the Future of AI Infrastructure
The 2.5MW DX CDU has been specifically engineered by a team of experts to address these evolving requirements, providing a configurable cooling solution to meet the unique needs of modern data centre applications.
“This is the first 2.5MW DX CDU we’ve produced globally, making it a significant achievement for FläktGroup,” said Marc Hayes, Executive Vice President, Data Centres Americas at FläktGroup.
"As the industry increasingly adopts liquid cooling to support AI applications, this project demonstrates our ability to develop innovative solutions that address emerging customer challenges while strengthening our position within the rapidly evolving data centre cooling market."
Unlike conventional liquid-to-liquid systems, this CDU utilizes refrigerant-based cooling technology and was developed in a close collaboration with a customer to meet the specific project requirements requested.
Engineering Innovation Through Collaboration
The project showcases FläktGroup’s expertise in delivering configurable cooling solutions for complex data center centre environments.
"This has been a true team achievement," said Marc. "At FläktGroup, we believe the best solutions are developed through close partnership and co-design with our customers, combining their operational insight with our engineering expertise.”
Developed through strong cooperation between engineering, sourcing, manufacturing and project delivery teams, the CDU was designed and produced over several months, drawing on specialist expertise across the organization and its wider supply chain network.
It highlights the company’s ability to combine engineering innovation with agile manufacturing capabilities to support large-scale data center centre deployments.
Data Centre Cooling at Scale
The CDU will support a major data centre development in the United States. First phase of the project aims to serve a 25MW data hall. A second phase, will double the capacity to 50MW. This will form part of a wider campus with a total planned power capacity of 200MW across eight development phases.
With the increasing scale of AI infrastructure and critical role advanced cooling technologies play in enabling high density computing environments, this project highlights the need for companies like FläktGroup to innovative for such demands.
Enabling the Next Generation of Data Centres
As computing technologies evolve, cooling systems must continue to adapt to increasing power densities, faster deployment requirements and more complex operational demands.
“We find ourselves in the middle of a technology revolution driven by the pursuit of higher performance and denser computing platforms,” said Marc Hayes.
“This rapid pace of innovation is transforming data center centre design and creating demand for increasingly innovative cooling solutions. Rack, server and facility densities continue to rise, and successful thermal management requires a holistic approach that balances heat removal, power density and speed to market.” FläktGroup’s unique approach with data centre design helps to meet the tailored needs of each customer project.
Driving Innovation in Data Center Centre Cooling
The successful production of FläktGroup's first 2.5 MW DX CDU represents an important milestone in the company's continued investment in advanced cooling technologies.
As demand for AI-ready infrastructure grows worldwide, FläktGroup remains committed to delivering efficient, reliable and sustainable cooling solutions that help customers meet the challenges of tomorrow's data centers centres.
