Tracey Rose: Her 30+ Year Career at Woods Air Movement

Among the 41 colleagues celebrating long service milestones this year - together representing an incredible 510 years of combined experience - Tracey Rose stands out for her remarkable 30-year journey.
Tracey began her career at Woods in the Birmingham office as a receptionist, answering phones and supporting the day-to-day running of the business. With a natural curiosity and a willingness to learn, she was soon encouraged to develop her knowledge of the company’s products. What started as a front-of-house role quickly became a stepping stone into the technical world of air movement, as she built a strong understanding of fans and their applications.
Prior to joining Woods, Tracey had worked for The Children’s Society looking after primary school children, then moved to an office furniture company in a data entry role, before changing to a role in credit control. These early experiences gave her a strong foundation in customer service and administration - skills that would prove invaluable throughout her career.
Seeing transformation within the sale business
Her time at Woods has not been without change. After an initial period with the company, Tracey briefly left before returning soon after as Office Supervisor, gaining valuable leadership experience along the way before becoming an External Sales Representative.
Reflecting on those early days, she laughs: “I really didn’t think I’d be there for long. When I started, we were based in an awful building, and I remember going home and telling my parents I didn’t think it would be for me.”
Three decades later, her story tells a very different tale.
Tracey has witnessed significant transformation within the sales business. She recalls a time when “everyone did everything,” compared to today’s more specialised roles. Throughout these changes, she has adapted, grown, and embraced every new challenge, demonstrating both resilience and a genuine passion for her work.
Now working as an Internal Sales Representative for Products, Tracey plays a key role in supporting customers and distributors across the HVAC and OEM sectors. Her position involves regular interaction with both new and long-standing customers, understanding their requirements, and helping deliver the right solutions.
As she explains, knowing what a customer wants and what they actually need can sometimes be two different things - and it’s her experience that helps bridge that gap.
Even in a more digital and remote working world, Tracey has maintained strong relationships. Having been based in the Birmingham office until the shift to homeworking due to Covid pandemic in 2019, she initially found the transition challenging:
“I’m a very sociable person and enjoy being around others, so it wasn’t easy at first.”
However, she has embraced new ways of working, staying closely connected with colleagues through Teams and regular communication.

What continues to stand out for Tracey is the culture at Woods. “I love my job. I’ve loved seeing all the changes over time. It’s a great company to work for - very supportive, with great colleagues.”
Her journey has also included overcoming challenges. Starting her career at a young age, Tracey entered what was then a predominantly male-dominated industry. She met this head-on, seeing it not as a barrier but as an opportunity to prove herself and grow professionally.
Outside of work, Tracey lives in Birmingham with her son, who is currently studying at college. A proud Brummie, she enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with her wide circle of friends - making sure she gets out and about whenever she can.
After 30 years, Tracey remains a familiar and trusted face to many Woods customers - someone who understands their needs, values long-term relationships, and consistently delivers support they can rely on.
