Meet Maheen-Abdul Ghani - Software and AI Developer

Using AI to Solve Real-World Challenges
For Maheen Abdul Ghani, Software and AI Developer at FläktGroup in Jönköping, curiosity and continuous learning have shaped an international journey spanning four countries and multiple disciplines. After joining FläktGroup in 2025 to complete her master’s thesis in the R&D department, she quickly discovered a supportive environment where innovation, collaboration, and new ideas are encouraged. Now part of the software team, Maheen helps develop AI-powered tools that improve efficiency and support users, while bringing a refreshingly practical perspective to the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence
1. How long have you worked for FläktGroup?
I first joined FläktGroup in January 2025 when I started my master’s thesis in the R&D department in Jönköping. At the time, I was completing my double-degree master’s programme between Finland and Sweden.
After my thesis, I was offered a role in the software department, and this June marks one year for me as an official employee at FläktGroup.
2. Why did you choose FläktGroup and why do you enjoy working here?
When I applied for my master’s thesis, I did not know much about FläktGroup. But during my thesis, I got to know the company better, and it was super cool for me to work in the R&D lab with actual experimental units.
I really appreciated the supportive environment, the people, and the room to try new ideas. The whole experience left such a positive impression on me that before my thesis ended, I asked my thesis supervisor if there was an opportunity to continue working here.
I enjoy working here because the work I do here does not feel like a job to me. I have learned so much since I joined FläktGroup, and I truly value being part of such a supportive work environment.
3. What is critically important in your role and what qualities are needed to do the job well?
In my role, it is important to have an open mind, learn quickly, and adapt. Software and AI are developing very fast, so we need to keep up and understand how to use new technologies in a practical way.
The key qualities needed are problem-solving skills, curiosity, product knowledge, and logical thinking. AI is powerful, but it is not the solution to everything, so it is important to understand the real problem first and then choose the right approach.
4. What is the biggest misconception about what you do?
As an AI developer, one of the biggest misconceptions is that AI can solve everything by itself. That is simply not true. AI tools can be very powerful, but the tools we create at work are not fully self-sufficient. They are mainly there to support people, improve efficiency, and save time. AI can still make mistakes, especially when working with critical product data or customer needs, so we cannot blindly rely on it to do the entire job perfectly.
Maybe we will get there in the future, but not yet.
5. What does your day typically look like?
My typical day starts with a team stand-up, where we update each other on our targets, priorities, and plans. On office days, we also usually have a nice team coffee break.
During the day, if I do not have meetings, I work on the current prioritised projects. We have a small AI team of two people, so we work closely together most of the time brainstorming ideas or discussing issues that need fixing.
6. Tell us about a recent professional challenge?
A recent professional challenge has been working on an AI tool that extracts information and shows results to users. Because of the current limitations of AI, the results can sometimes be inconsistent or not perfect.
This is challenging because users often expect AI tools to be highly accurate, especially when they are used for specific business tasks. But AI does not understand things the same way a human does, and it can still make mistakes.
So one of the challenges has been showing the value of AI while also setting realistic expectations. AI can improve efficiency and support users, but it still needs human understanding, validation, and the right use case.
7. How important are sustainability, the environment, and our planet to you?
I would say they are quite important to me (especially when we are seeing more extreme hot and cold weather)
Working with AI also makes me more aware that digital tools have an environmental impact. Even using services like ChatGPT or other AI tools requires resources in the background. So I think it is important to be conscious about how we use these tools, avoid unnecessary waste, and focus on using AI efficiently and meaningfully.
8. The thing that motivates me most of all…
What motivates me most is the idea of helping others and adding value to people’s lives. Whether it is through my work, WinSci, or anything else I do, I always want to contribute in a meaningful way and make a positive difference.
