FläktGroup explores the future of Data Centres in exclusive VIP event
Published
FläktGroup welcomed senior leaders from across the data centre industry to an exclusive VIP reception at Horizon 22 in London.
Set against the backdrop of London’s dynamic skyline, the event provided a unique opportunity for customers, partners and industry experts to connect. Here they exchanged perspectives on the ever-evolving challenges shaping the future of data centres.
From the outset, the atmosphere was highly engaging, with attendees actively sharing knowledge and exploring different approaches to meet the growing demands on data centre infrastructure. Key topics included the rapid expansion of digital services, rising sustainability expectations, and the need for resilient, future-ready solutions.
Execution as the Differentiator
A core theme throughout the event was the growing importance of execution in delivering high-performing data centres.
During her presentation, Michelle Meeder, FläktGroup Director DC Global Accounts Execution, highlighted a significant shift within the industry. While data centre design and infrastructure standards are becoming increasingly aligned globally, execution remains a critical and often underestimated factor within data centre operation.
The message was clear; uptime starts long before a facility becomes operational. Build quality, system integration and commissioning practices all play a decisive role in ensuring reliability and resilience.
This discussion emphasised the need for the industry to move towards a more structured and consistent approach to execution. Lifecycle performance, measurable outcomes and greater use of digitisation and governance are the key focus areas for optimal data centre performance. Commenting on the growing importance of execution, Michelle said:
“What’s becoming increasingly clear is that execution is now the true differentiator in our industry. While design standards continue to align globally, it’s the quality of delivery — from construction through to commissioning — that ultimately defines performance, resilience, and long-term success. As an industry, we need to move towards a more consistent and measurable approach to execution across the full lifecycle of a data centre.”
Designing for 2030
A highlight of the evening was the expert panel discussion, “Designing for 2030: Future-Proofing Data Centres Without Compromise.” Moderated by Jonas Caino, FläktGroup Business Development Director, the session brought together a panel of highly regarded industry voices to explore how the sector can balance growth, sustainability and operational resilience.
Panellists discussed the increasing complexity of data centre projects and the need for an integrated approached. Collaboration emerged as key theme in this discussion, with speakers stressing that successful delivery at scale will depend on strong partnerships across the value chain. Reflecting on the discussion, Jonas commented:
“The discussion highlighted just how critical collaboration has become in delivering the next generation of data centres. Balancing scalability, sustainability, and resilience cannot be achieved in isolation — it requires strong partnerships and alignment across the entire value chain. Events like this are invaluable in bringing the industry together to share perspectives and shape that future collectively.”
Key industry insights from attendees
Interactive polling during the event uncovered some insight into industry priorities and challenges.
One of the most significant barriers to adoption of liquid cooling was identified as uncertainty around future technology standards, reflecting concerns about long-term compatibility and risk. Investment requirements, alongside testing and operational confidence, were also highlighted as key considerations.
When looking ahead to future growth, the biggest constraint identified was power availability and access to grid infrastructure. This reinforces the critical role of energy infrastructure in enabling the continued expansion of the data centre industry.
In terms of cooling solution selection, reliability and operation resilience was identified as the top priority for decision-makers. While energy efficiency remains a key focus, performance certainty continues to lead purchasing decisions.
Strengthening partnerships for the future
Across both formal discussions and individual conversations, there was an overwhelming message that was frequently sited. The industry is evolving from product-led procurement towards partnership-driven delivery models.
Customers are increasingly seeking trusted partners who can provide end-to-end support, demonstrate proven delivery capability and ensure a consistent high-quality execution. It highlights the growing importance of expertise, collaboration and accountability across the entire project lifecycle. Commenting on this shift, Mohamed Ashok, FlaktGroup Business Development Director, said:
“We’re seeing a clear shift in customer expectations — from product-focused conversations to a demand for trusted partners who can deliver confidence across the entire project lifecycle. Reliability, transparency, and proven execution capability are becoming just as important as the technology itself. That’s where real value is created for customers.”
Looking ahead
The event reinforced FläktGroup’s role as a trusted partner in the data centre sector, bringing together industry expertise to address shared challenges and opportunities.
Execution excellence, collaboration and lifecycle thinking will be essential to delivering resilient, scalable and future-ready data centre infrastructure.
