Meet Liberty - Performance Assistant (Apprentice)
Driving Continuous Improvement
Liberty (Libby) Price is a Performance Assistant Apprentice at FläktGroup’s Hereford office and UKFG Apprentice of the Year 2025. Since joining in 2023, she has stood out for her curiosity, fresh perspective, and commitment to improving how things are done.
Working across departments, Libby supports performance and process improvement initiatives, helping teams identify more efficient ways of working. Her proactive approach and willingness to ask questions have already made a positive impact, as she continues to build strong foundations for a future career in quality and performance.
1. How did your career at FläktGroup begin?
After completing my A Levels, I knew I wanted to do an apprenticeship rather than go to university, so I looked at several companies.
FläktGroup stood out because so many people have worked here for a long time, and any company that can retain employees clearly does something right. It also felt stable, with good job opportunities and plenty of room for career progression after completing an apprenticeship.
2. What do you like most about working here?
I enjoy doing lots of different things, and my current role spans all departments across the company. This gives me a broad understanding of the work that goes on throughout the business.
The people are great too - many colleagues have been here a long time and have so much knowledge to share. There are lots of opportunities to learn. For example, I was involved with the Truck Tour last year and have been out on sites with colleagues, so I’m always picking up something new.
3. What qualities are critical in your role?
Being inquisitive really helps - I ask lots of questions, and that’s how I learn. My role also involves looking at processes and identifying ways they could be improved, so it’s important to keep an open mind and help others do the same.
Just because something has been done the same way for a long time doesn’t mean there isn’t a better way for the future.
4. Tell us about a project you have been involved in which you have enjoyed.
I’ve really enjoyed working with Carl and the team on POIM (Project Order Intake Matrix). It’s a fascinating project and will probably form the basis of my end-point assessment for my apprenticeship.
The aim is to create a single point of reference that brings together finance, sales, and project information into one sheet. This will make things easier for people by supporting both costings and finance. We hope the latest version of POIM will be rolled out across FGUK soon.
5. What challenges do you face in your role?
My biggest challenge at the start was confidence. I had just left school and didn’t know anything about the company or the working world. Everyone was very supportive though, and people soon learned that I ask a lot of questions!
Over time my confidence grew, along with my ability to communicate with people across departments. Getting to know everyone and learning about the business has made a huge difference.
6. Have you been supported in your training and career to date?
Yes - always.
I did have a bit of a wobble early on. I originally started in the Finance department doing a different apprenticeship, but I realised it wasn’t the right fit. I wanted to move from accountancy to business but wasn’t sure whether it was possible or how it would work. Everyone was incredibly helpful, and I moved into the Internal Sales Engineer Apprenticeship, before then moving into my current role as Performance Assistant Apprentice following recent management changes at FGUK.
I’m now part of Carl Rose’s team - he was also a FläktGroup apprentice and has been very supportive of my training and career development.
My immediate goal is to finish my apprenticeship successfully, which should be in Spring, so not long now! Ideally, I’d love to stay here and work in quality and performance if the opportunity arises.
