A Career Built on Curiosity and Collaboration: Celebrating Elina Mäkinen
How did your career at FläktGroup begin?
My career at FläktGroup began during my studies when I joined the company’s IT department in 2000. After spending some time in our production facility in Finland learning about our products, I moved to domestic sales, focusing on quotation calculation and customer service.
How has your role evolved since then?
I worked as a project quotation specialist in domestic sales for over 20 years. During that time, I was involved in developing calculation tools for different projects and carried out project quotations in close collaboration with sales, product and production development, logistics, marketing, customer service, production and IT. This gave me a broad understanding of our operations and the entire lifecycle of our products.
My current role as a Key Account Manager focuses on close cooperation with our distributors. This includes planning and implementing various campaigns and expanding their product assortments in collaboration with both product and production development. Marketing is also an important part of my work – I collaborate closely with our Marketing Manager on our partners' promotions and campaigns. I am also involved in the development of our web shop, which is managed by a close team member.
What do you like most about working here?
The best part of my job are the people around me and working together with them – especially solving challenging situations, whether they are related to customers or our internal processes. Every day I see how professional and skilled our people are across the organisation. That inspires me to keep improving myself and motivates me in my own work.
What qualities are critically important in your role?
Listening is key – whether the issue comes from a customer or a colleague. In my opinion, it is important to be determined yet innovative to stay current in today’s work environment. You have to be the kind of person who looks for and finds solutions even before problems arise. I am also a very social person, which is an important trait in my role – I want our customers to feel that it is always a good day to get in touch, no matter how big or small the matter is.
What was your most recent professional challenge?
The biggest challenges in my current role have been ensuring the successful implementation of agreed campaigns from the customers’ perspective. This has required a lot of coordination due to major organisational changes within the company and evolving roles and responsibilities across different departments.
What keeps you motivated after 25 years?
Throughout my 25 years at FläktGroup, I have always been motivated by the opportunity to learn new things and challenge myself in new situations. It is very rewarding to see how my own contribution can also help others succeed in their work. Although my work environment and closest colleagues have changed over the years, both the old and the new have been an important part of my career at FläktGroup.
I am a very social person, which is an important trait in my role – I want our customers to feel that it is always a good day to get in touch, no matter how big or small the matter is.
